Africa Development Solutions (ADS), through its creative platform Social Nation, will be launching the Mansa creative hub – a world class floating studio – in Mindelo, Cape Verde on August 14th, 2021.

The inauguration of the Mansa Floating Studio will be an iconic three-day event, climaxing with the Baia das Gatas Music Festival, Cape Verde’s biggest and oldest music and cultural festival.

It also includes a fashion show titled “Traversee du Dessert”, that imitates the desert crossing of Mansa Musa, Emperor of the Mali kingdom, as he traveled to Mecca in 1324 to do his pilgrimage.

“Our goal at ADS is to create a new business model adapted to African ways to operate, relying on agile operation platforms, and able to provide relevant solutions anywhere on the continent. As African countries gain recognition as 21st-century global leaders, the Mansa Floating Hub will represent the continent’s power — past, present, and future through connecting the different cultures.  Says the Chairman and CEO of ADS Group Samba Bathily.

We have partnered with African institutions and members of the African diaspora to use the platform to showcase the power of fusing the creative imagination into the development agenda of Africa,” says the Chief Executive Officer Samba Bathily.

Inspired by Cape Verde’s cultural and environmental resources, the vessel was designed and built by the famous architect Kunlé Adeyemi. It is an adaptation of the MFST (Makoko Floating System), a modular and prefabricated floating timber construction system based on nature.

The hub seeks to uncover the untapped potential that the cultural diversity of a youthful continent has to offer. While the art of African storytelling has evolved over time from oral traditions to dance, music, written word, poetry, film and many more, there remains room for more growth.
